It was quite a party last night on the NEA compound. The entire team, all the NEA staff and their families feasted together outside under the stars. A cow and a goat given to us at the Durbar made a delicious contribution to the main course. After dinner, speeches were given by Dr. Mensah’s mother, his brother Chief of Yaara, Dr. Mensah, and then Dr. Rob and I gave a tag-team address. Our leaders stood to pledge our support as advisors to the Leyaata Hospital for all of the clinical programs during these next months of intense planning. This announcement was extremely well received!
Dr. Mensah and Brenda kicked off the dancing and we enjoyed a fabulous celebration together.
At 5:30 am this morning, it was time to say good-bye. While it was difficult to part with our dear friends here, we are all ready to begin our journey home and look forward to sharing our stories and pictures from this memorable and exceptional mission.
Signing off again…

So…here I am, finally leaving a comment after 2 weeks of faithfully reading the updates and loving them and you might not even see it, but…
I was struck this morning how beautiful it is that stories are so incredible in keeping memories alive and in relaying the emotion of certain events. Whether they’re being told in person around a campfire or through a blog written on the other side of the world, they allow us to share experiences continuously. After I would read a blog entry and feel the emotion of the stories, I would tell several people the highlights throughout my day. They would then have a chance to share in the camaraderie that you, as a team with your Ghanaian brothers and sisters, feel. Now that you are on your way home, those and other stories will continue to surface and be shared over and over again. At the same time, the thousands of people who experienced life changing health care in their villages, will be sharing their own stories and some of the same ones, from a different perspective. It’s just beautiful to think of how these stories will continue to bless people and encourage them to think about what they can do in their daily lives to make a difference…right where they are or around the world! Thank you for blessing us with your stories and allowing us to share in your days! Safe travels!
P.S. if you get a chance to read this, someone can give Graham the coles notes version…he probably tuned out after the first sentence!
