Congratulations to David and Brenda Mensah, Laureates of Ghana’s Millennium Excellence Award for Peace.

Brenda shares,

David and I were absolutely amazed when we heard that we had been nominated for the prestigious Millennium Excellence Award in the category of Peace. We knew that God had been observing our work as His peacemakers in northern Ghana over the past 25 years but didn’t realize that other eyes had as well. We humbly accept this award bestowed upon us with “both hands” and pledge our continued effort to promote peace in this great nation of Ghana and beyond. We urge you to do the same in your homes, workplaces and communities – wherever and whenever you have the influence or opportunity to do so. … In a world where there is much trouble, let us never give up believing that [peace on earth] is still possible.

The prestigious Millennium Excellence Awards are given every five years, following a nomination process and review by the Directors of the Millennium Excellence Foundation. Present for the 2015 awards were the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and former President J. K. Rawlings, as well as other dignitaries. Some of the other recipients of the 2015 awards included undercover investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas for his work in combatting illegal crime and illegal trade and Professor Kaku Ohene-Frempong (Medicine) for his sickle cell research.

We celebrate with the Mensahs as they receive this award, grateful for God’s blessing on their tireless service to the poor.

Congratulations, Dr. (Mrs.) Brenda and David Mensah! I conceived the idea to nominate both of you for this award in 2011. But, I met a challenge of getting in touch with you. Now that I popped into this refreshing news, I am excitingly overwhelmed with this achievement. What I can say with all humility is that the God who has brought to you to this far may He sustains, instructs and keeps the family going on to impact more lives, communities and environment. If I hear your names as Nobel Prize winners in the future, I will certainly not be surprised. I eulogize those who nominated you for the award as well for being good compatriots. For the awarding committee, I think this is a wise and excellent decision. I cannot end this comment without leaving with you this message from 3 John 1:2. Bravo, once again Brenda and David!

Just read the book – “Kwabena: an African Boy’s Journey of Faith” with great blessing! One of my 4 sons and his wife and family are presently preparing to move to S. Ghana where by God’s grace they will be used in service establishing Gospel preaching, Bible promoting N.T. churches around the perimeter of L. Bosomtwe in the Ashanti Region. The humanitarian effort to relieve the poor and spread the Gospel of Christ is at the heart of Global Evangelistic Missionary Services, (GEMS). My son and his family will be serving under the auspices of this organization, established by faith just a few years ago. He also has been greatly stirred and blessed by this book, as a tremendous example of what the Lord can accomplish through God- given FAITH exercised by His servants. May God continue to used you mightily, David and Brenda! II Cor.3:5-6

This a great honor and recognition of a job well done! I have been blessed over the years to watch your work from afar/sidelines and through some of your close friends. God is good and has watched for sure. His timing is always perfect and this seems like the time your work and passion/commitment should be recognized on a larger scale. Thanks for your faithful service.

Bravo, David and Brenda! Congratulations! As I watched, my mind went back to our Tamale days: Tamale Chaplaincy Board and trips to secondary schools — including our trip to Damongo for the schools rally when we spent an afternoon with the Theobalds. I told Eric Asare about your award and he recalled the journeys you made with him in his Red VW Beetle when he was Travelling Secretary for Scripture Union. I told Rev. Fokuo too about your award and he too recalled our time together at Vittin. Mine! The nostalgia is overwhelming.
And Brenda, I recall the week I spent with your parents, when I was in Canada for the Commonwealth Writers Prize in 1992. On two different afternoons I went with your dad to visit a Senior Citizens’ home and then to a children’s home where the children insisted I tell them an African story. I don’t remember which of our many stories I told them but I still recall their sweet and eager faces. And then, Brenda, your Mom told me how you and David met. I laughed till my sides ached.
I’ve tried reaching you on phone, David, but couldn’t get through. I sure will like us to share a word or two, to personally
Congratulate you both on your long walk to this Millennium Award. Blessings.
