Together We Have a Great Story to Tell

2017/11/11 By Dr. Jennifer Wilson

The staff of KLM airlines, having met many of our 66 team members on today’s flight, presented our logistics manager Kim with a signed letter wishing us success on our mission along with a little bell that was inscribed “Together We Have A Great Story To Tell.”

How perfect. A great story is indeed about to be told.

Sixty-six of us are now together. Every bit of our baggage arrived safely. We have shared a meal. We are ready for our story to begin.

Our journey was amazing, by the way. Wearing our team shirts proved helpful yet again as some amazing connections were made en route!

I was praying we wouldn’t have a medical emergency on board so our team could rest. There was no medical emergency, but there was a child care emergency that involved 3 very unhappy small children who liked to scream — a lot. Nurse Leslie spent what seemed like hours walking them up and down the aisles, trying to keep them occupied. At one point I looked back only to see my dear friend Kyle (our lead dentist) with one of the kids finally sound asleep in his arms. One of our team values is service …

I feel so privileged to be part of this group who have prepared so wholeheartedly to serve in Ghana. I’m too excited to sleep anticipating the greeting we will receive from our friends at NEA in a few short hours.

Naturally it would be my sister Leslie looking after small upset children.
She is a natural and has been doing it all her life, starting with me as a little girl!

During a visit to missionary friends in Uganda, I met a group of KLM staff on a Safari day out. I learned that the management of KLM give their employees paid leave to go and serve in needy places. What a blessing this company is to many people I am sure, Dorothy

Ellis is very clingy, bless her. I found her in my bed yesterday before I had a chance to make it. I know she is missing you a lot. I’m making her as comforted as possible. Orin is just Orin. But I think he misses you too.

Of course my Mom was the one walking the children up and down the aisles! She’s the bestest with my kids, so it only makes sense that she would be equally as awesome with strangers babies!

    dear Jennifer and GHT
Thankful for your safe arrival. Not a surprise to learn ministry occurred on the flight. We so appreciate having these updates. It stirs our hearts with profound memories of time on site and great anticipation of the ways in which God works through this outreach that will impact the team, NEA staff and the communities you serve.

Nurse Lesley is the best in any situation, whether in the emerg or attending to a guest who needs minor medical attention at her cottage. Way to go Tookie!

Best wishes to you all for an amazing journey to the Congo.

What a gift you are to those parents who were likely frazzled with crying children. What a gift you were to them. Sending love and good wishes from home.
